The Dii Consentes

5 oz Pure Silver Coin – Republique du Tchad 2022 25000 Francs CFA

The Dii Consentes, also known as Di or Dei Consentes, is an ancient list of twelve major deities, six gods and six goddesses, in the pantheon of Ancient Rome. Their gilt statues stood in the Roman Forum and later appeared in the Porticus Deorum Consentium. The gods were listed by the poet Ennius in the late 3rd century BCE in a paraphrase of an unknown Greek poet. A Roman historian named Titus Livius arranged them in six male-female pairs of Gods and Goddesses. They were Jupiter-Juno, Mars-Venus, Neptune-Minerva, Apollo-Diana, Vulcan-Vesta, and Mercury-Ceres. Each God and Goddess represents a zodiac in astrology as they each governed a month.

Inspired by the Dii Consentes Marble Disc, believed to resemble an altar first founded in Gabii, Italy in the first century BC which can be found today, in the Antiquities section of the Louvre in Paris, the capital of France. Although the rituals it was used for were unclear, the twelve deities depicted correspond to the Dii Consentes.

The collectible features the twelve Olympians in pairs along with an attribute they represent and surrounding them are the zodiac signs and symbols. Each of the Dii Consentes is brought to life on an ultra-high relief to produce an immensely true-to-life impression.

On the obverse, the legal tender, the Coat of Arms du Tchad, sits in the center surrounded by the twelve zodiac signs namely Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn. A masterpiece of silver, this collectible is a respectful nod to Roman Mythology, a perfectly executed representation of the marble disc of the Dii Consentes and it is a must-have for anyone who truly appreciates Roman mythology.

The 5 oz 999 Pure Silver coin is struck concave in ultra-high relief, complemented with antiqued silver finishing that accentuates the lifelikeness of the twelve major deities in the pantheon of Ancient Rome. This is a limited edition of 79 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
