2 oz Pure Silver Coin – Republique du Tchad 2021 – 10000 Francs CFA – Project Management for: The Treasurists
When translated from Arabic, Saladin’s name (Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb) would mean “Righteousness of the Faith”. He had cultivated an image for himself as the protector of Islam against rival faiths, leading the successful conquest of Muslim Syria and returning Egypt to Sunni Islam faith by ending the Shi’ite caliphate. Outside of his dedication towards jihad, Saladin was known for his generous and giving nature, giving away much of his wealth to his subjects and leaving little for himself upon his death.
Set against the backdrop of the Battle of Hattin, this fine sculpture of Saladin features an up-close, side profile of him dressed in his armor, leading his army of troops courageously against the Crusaders. They move forwards into battle, symbolizing their eventual success in the conquest of Crusader States in the Middle East. On the obverse, the legal tender is stylized with Arabic script. Highly regarded by both Muslim believers and Christians, Saladin is one of the greatest medieval leaders.
The 2oz fine-silver coin is struck in high relief, complemented with antiqued silver finishing that accentuates the lifelikeness of Saladin.
